About a week ago, my macbook pro (mid 2011) started acting up. The first thing it did was completely shut off, not being able to be powered on at all. When I plugged the magsafe adapter into the computer all that would happen was the light on the charger would glow an extremely dim green and flicker yellow at times. This has happened to me before once and the past time I just let it sit and it turned on in a couple days. I let it sit just like I did the previous time and, voila it turned on. I was able to get about a days use out of it before I booted it up and noticed it took me straight to recovery mode. This has also happened to me once before and what I did to fix it was start it in safe mode, however this time is different. When I try booting to safe mode it shows me a
grey `no entry`sign and sends me back to recovery mode. On the OS X utilities screen I tried re-installing a new version of mavericks however it wouldn't verify my mac to download a new version. Turns out when my computer didn't turn on the previous days the clock stopped working and that's why I couldn't get a new copy of mavericks. I adjusted the clock in terminal and it now lets my through to pick a drive where I want to re-install mavericks on. The only available drive is called recovery HD and it is greyed out. When I hover over it, it says that the disk is locked, and I have no idea how to open it. Next I tried using a startup disk to go straight back to my original hard drive but it syas that there are no start up hard drives to choose from. Lastly I went to disk utility and tried to verify and repair all my disks. When I verify my main disk (320gb hitachi) it says everything is ok, but when I try to repair it, it says `live file system repair is not supported.` I have no idea what my next step is in order to get my mac working and out of recovery mode. Any help is appreciated and sorry about the long post, I just wanted to cram all the info I had in.
additional information: I have made no backups what so ever and I cant find any way of making backups while in recovery mode.
I am too nervous to mess with the partitions so if someone could help with those it would be great!
I am running on OS X Mavericks at the current time.
It is in my best interest to keep all of my files and data intact and not erased or corrupted.
